Analysing music videos

Sum 41- The Hell Song

This was a rock music video which features a series of dolls impersonating the four main band members including a range of other dolls to give the impression of a concert scene. They were joined with other dolls such as those of Snoop Dogg, Ozzy Osbourne with his family, Marilyn Manson, Korn, Metallica, Eddie the Head, Gene Simmons, Spice Girls, Angus Young, Jesus, Tuck Turner Willison, Alice Cooper and Ludacris. Also, the dolls' obscene finger gestures and nudity are comically censored, which are used to make it look like real life. The video was directed by Marc Klasfeld. The representation of gender in this video could be clearly seen through nudity in women which has been censored and discourteous gestures created by males. The video has been cleverly filmed giving a Cinema Verite effect, multiple close up shots of the dolls and action being filmed.

Tegan and Sarah- Call It Off

This video is minimalistic, set in one location which was a white room with the two females also wearing white and the only colour being the telephone wires being wrapped around her body. The camera work really I feel was very effective and this is what gives the video the professional finish. The camera made you feel as if you were part of the video which attracts you into watching the video. This video was created on budget, yet it works very well through its simplistic ways.
